Dilemma – A cry for help !!

Dear Readers

This blogpost holds special importance to me as I write this not as a fiction …its a true cry for help and would love to have suggestions from anyone who is reading this or comes across it ..because we never know what might just click..

I have one student very bright ..he is about 12…who had lost his grandmother during covid times and had seen her take the last breath in front of his eyes during Covid times when he was only 7 ..and this has left him traumatised as he was too attached to her ..on the surface he looks calm but deep inside he is all wretched .

His mother tries best whatever she can ..but father does not acknowledge the mental health status of the child . Having good relations with the mother , she asked me as to what she can do in such circumstances ..but I am also in a fix ..as the son is keen to go for therapy but the mother is afraid therapy might make him dependent on it forever …she also realises that he is very bright and all he needs a very good friend , a very good connection to whom she can share everything and in today’s challenging times kids have really gone lonely ..

What is that mother supposed to do ..May this reach millions and give unique productive solutions as its a genuine cry for help !!

May be mother could first consult a therapist to understand the process better.. The boy would also benefit from new friends to play and share with… Most importantly.. he needs to channelize his emotions.. Since he’s too young to understand this fully… forming habits like journaling, painting, or any creative activity could help. Storytelling about his grandmother’s life and values might also bring him comfort

Thank you for the suggestions – truly valuable but the main problem which is coming is that since the father does not acknowledge despite the mother explaining it ..in this case what exactly the mother on her own can do to comfort the child – like how she can establish a deeper connection with her son ..where he starts feeling more connected and supported ..like do you think if she herself gets more involved in these processes of painting , jornaling alongwith him might help better ??

Yeah.. joining her son in painting and journaling can help deepen their connection.. as creative activities provide a safe space for expression and communication… it will strengthen their bond. A shared art journal or collaborative projects can build trust and emotional support.. allowing him to feel heard and understood
